2005 – Cipularang Toll Road was Opened

The name of Cipularang is contraction of the name of the areas conneted by the toll road: Cikampek – Purwakarta – Padalarang. It continues the previous toll road from Jakarta to Cikampek. Spanning 41 kilometers from Cikampek to Padalarang, the road contour is more extreme than other toll road in Indonesia. It is located along the mountains and hills, so the the track is going up and down with many bends. The most extreme road conditions are located on KM 96 and KM 93 on the way down to Jakarta. Both have high angle surfaces with quite sharp bends. Drivers should be more careful and pay more attention on these KMs to avoid any unwanted incident such as cannot control the stability of the vehicle, accident, etc.

The toll road was officially opened by 6th President, Mr. Susilo Bambang Yudoyono on July 12th, 2005. It was the short and challenging project because the developer (PT Jasa Marga) was urged to complete the project in one year, from April 7th, 2004 to before April 24th, 2005. The government needed the toll road to be used by delegations from around 100 nations to attend the Asian-African Summit in Jakarta and Bandung. This Summit was held to commemorate the first Asian African Conference 50 years before.

It was very difficult to do the project. The road pass through many hills, valleys, and rivers. At least 10 hills were cropped, low-lands were filled by 18 million cubic meters of land, and bridges were built above the rivers and valleys.
